Nigel M Taylor is an honours graduate of Durham University and gained his Masters from Manchester University. After teaching in a number of secondary schools he held senior music posts with Bolton and Shropshire LEAs. Nigel joined  Staffordshire County Council in 1997 where he is proud to be Head of Staffordshire Performing Arts, one of the largest and most successful Local Authority music services in the UK.

Nigel was an OFSTED inspector for over 10 years serving on 80 school inspections and is still a consultant to schools, LEAs and arts organisations. He is an adviser to the Royal Northern College of Music and to Keele University, a board member of Manchester Camerata and Sound it Out, and Chair of Make Some Noise, the Youth Music Action Zone for Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent.

As a conductor Nigel has held posts with ensembles such as Birmingham Sinfonietta, Corus Brass, Harmonie '84 and JSVB and is particularly known for his innovative work with youth orchestras, bands and choirs, a number of which have won national and international awards under his direction. He was chief conductor of a 150-strong international youth orchestra comprised of musicians from throughout Europe and the USA and continues to enjoy his guest conducting schedule here and abroad.

Nigel has been responsible for the premieres of several major works by British and Australian composers such as Bedford, Gregson, Horovitz, Stanhope, Vine and Woolfenden. His own output includes "Requiem Brevis", which has been given several performances here and abroad. He has broadcast on radio and television, made a number of recordings and works as an adjudicator.
